LOVERS POINT COVE
(BEACH AND BOAT OR KAYAK DIVES)
(SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE TO ADVANCED)

Lovers Cove is a protected cove located in Pacific Grove at the intersection of 17th Street and Ocean View Blvd. This is a very scenic cove which usually gets very little wave action. The bottom ranges from the 20 to the 45 foot depth, and the terrain varies from sand channels to rocky reef areas. There is a public toilet in the park above the cove, and there are BBQ pits available for use. The parking lot has a two hour limit, and it is rigidly enforced. There is also parking available on the street. If you do park in the lot, do not back your vehicle into the parking spot - that will get you a ticket for sure.

There are actually three beaches located at Lovers Point, Beach 1(Lovers Cove), Beach 2, and Beach 3. Beach 2 has a sandy, shallow bottom and does not have very good access for divers.

Beach 1 is the larger sandy beach below the parking lot and the Boathouse Restaurant. Access to Beach 1 is via an asphalt path and a nice stairway to the beach. This cove (Beach 1) is very good for tune up dives and also for classes. This cove and beach are very popular with local residents, and it seems there are always children playing at the waters edge. The city of Pacific Grove has placed a dive sign on the concrete piling in the middle of the beach instructing divers to keep to the right of that piling. Please exercise courtesy and common sense.

Beach 3 is across from the Tinnery Restaurant and is accessed by a narrow stone stairway down to the beach. Beach 3 is the best dive at this location, but occasionally gets significant wave action.

The decision to dive (or not) is your responsibility. Keep diving activities within your training and comfort level. If you feel more training or experience is needed before attempting a dive, don't dive. Know personal limits, skill levels, and abilities of yourself and your dive buddy. Dive Safely and Dive Often!
